An interim president has been appointed by the military in the North African state of Egypt. Adly Mansour, chief justice of the Egyptian Supreme Constitutional Court, will be tasked with the drafting of a new constitution for the country of over 80 million people.
The government of Mohamed Morsi was overthrown by the Egyptian military on July 3 after days and indeed months of political turmoil inside the country. The army had given the Freedom and Justice Party government 48 hours to form a coalition regime, President Morsi refused prompting the coup.
International outrage has been expressed over the forced landing of the jet of Bolivian President Evo Morales. The U.S.-engineered denial of airspace by European states and the searching of Morales' aircraft, who was then held up for 14 hours, represented a blatant violation of the sovereignty of this South American state.
President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe has said that the inclusive government will not be continued in the Southern African state. Zimbabwe is busy preparing for national harmonized elections on July 31.
