ANC to Attend 55th Anniversary of the Founding of the BDP

The Secretary General of the African National Congress, Comrade Gwede Mantashe will lead the ANC delegation to the 55th Anniversary of the founding of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) in Serowe, Botswana, on Saturday, 26 August 2017.

The 55th Anniversary of Botswana's governing party coincides with the 55th Anniversary of the ANC's Lobatse Conference. Following the banning of the ANC by the oppressive apartheid government, the first Conference of the ANC to be held outside of the country, was held in Lobatse, Botswana, in 1962.

The joint celebrations in Botswana mark the long-standing historical, political, economic and diplomatic relations between South Africa and Botswana and the governing parties.
