Boko Haram Militants Kill 34 in Borno

Thirty four people were killed by Boko Haram militants who attacked fishermen and travelers in Kukawa and Ngala local government areas of Borno State, local hunters said yesterday.
The insurgents were also said to have snatched three vehicles carrying commodities valued at N8 million, killing the drivers and burning nine other vehicles.
Though the details of the attacks were still sketchy by press time due to lack of means of communication in the area, our correspondent gathered from hunters in Maiduguri that the fishermen went fishing on Sunday at Duburi and Dabar-Wanzam villages of Baga town where they encountered the insurgents.
“In Duburi village, 14 people were killed while 17 others were killed in Dabar-Wanzam village. All were fishermen who just returned from their various states of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara following the resuscitation of fishing activities in the area,” said Alhaji Bunu Bukur, the Secretary General of Borno State Hunters Association.
“Elsewhere, along Ngala LGA, between Lomani and Musne villages, the insurgents on Sunday attacked travelers, killed three drivers, snatched their vehicles and burnt nine other vehicles,” Alhaji Bukar said.
Contacted on phone yesterday, the Police Spokesman in the state, DSP Victor Isuku, said his Command had no knowledge of the attacks in Baga, Monguno and Ngala, due to poor network communication and the distance of the affected locations from Maiduguri.
