Organizing Strategy Meeting
Fight for a Moratorium to Stop Foreclosures
and Utility Shut-offs

Saturday, February 9, 2008, 1:00 p.m.
Central United Methodist Church, 4th Floor
23 East Adams (at Woodward – Grand Circus Park), Detroit
Enter on north side of church.

The campaign for a moratorium on foreclosures in Michigan has been gaining steam. Detroit City Council recently passed a resolution supporting a moratorium on foreclosures.

We have met with State Senator Hanson Clarke who indicated he would put a resolution into the Michigan Legislature.

Nationally, major civil rights groups and the AFL-CIO have all come out for a moratorium. Even Hillary Clinton has voiced support for a 90-day moratorium.

Over 100 people gathered in Lansing to protest on Jan. 29 at the State Capitol to demand Gov. Granholm use her emergency powers under the law to impose a moratorium stopping foreclosures and evictions. Granholm gave her “state of the state” address on Jan. 29 but didn’t even mention foreclosures.

Her callous disregard for the suffering of tens of thousands of Michigan families is criminal. We have to step up our efforts until she can ignore us no longer!

Join the struggle today. Come to the meeting on Feb. 9 to strategize and plan future activities (including the physical defense of homes against evictions) for a continuing fightback.
