Somalia: Two Local Journalists Abducted in Kismayo
29 DECEMBER 2013
Two Somali journalists have been abducted on Saturday night from their homes in Kismayo, a southern port town in Somalia.
Nasteho Mohamed Omar, a female journalist and Mohamed Hassan Hiis were abducted by armed men related to the Raskamboni Brigadier led by Ahmed Madobe, former Al Shabab commander who now controls Kismayo.
The two journalists' whereabouts was not known since Saturday night after they were both taken by armed militia lotal to Ahmed Madobe. Local journalists were threatened to be beheaded f they report on the abduction of the two journalists, unnnamed journalist told Radio Dalsan.
This came a week after the journalist Adan Mohamed Salad (known as Adam Kismayo) who works for Radio Mogadishu was apprehended by the Raskamboni militia. Adam Kismayo's arrest was not reasoned yet.
Kismayo has become the worst town in Somalia for journalists after clan-based conflict broke out in mid June following dispute over formation of highly contested local administration.
The town remains unsecure while the Kenyan contingent of the African Union Mission (AMISOM) only control the seaport and the airport of the town.
