The leaders of the Donetsk People’s Republic plan to “begin talks on at least civilized divorce with Kiev’s central authorities,”
DONETSK, May 11 /ITAR-TASS/. After the Sunday referendum in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, its organizers plan to convene a regional congress of deputies of all levels and launch the process of “civilized divorce” with the Kiev authorities, Boris Litvinov, a coordinator of the central election commission of the Donetsk People’s Republic and a co-chairman of presidium of the Donetsk People’s Republic, told the Vesti radio station on Sunday.

Kiev’s central authorities,” he said. “We want to be a party to the negotiating process, which rests on the will of the people, and to build relations with all states on the basis of equal rights.”
He said that the referendum was absolutely legal. “People are standing in 300-400 metre lines to cast their votes at polling stations,” Litvinov noted. “Even in the Soviet times we never saw such queues.

Voting at the self-determination referendum in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region is finished with all balloting stations closed, Boris Litvinov, a coordinator of the central election commission of the Donetsk People’s Republic and a co-chairman of presidium of the Donetsk People’s Republic, told Itar-Tass late on Sunday, adding that the turnout had exceeded 70 percent.
“According to preliminary data, the turnout was 71.4 percent,” he said.
Problems emerged in Mariupol and Krasnoarmeisl,” Litvinov noted. “Due to security considerations, polling stations in Mariupol were closed at 17:00 local time (18:00 Moscow time), and at 16:00 local time (17:00 Moscow time) - in Krasnoarmeisk.”
“The referendum results will be made public within two days,” he said, adding that preliminary results would be available overnight to Monday.

Servicemen of the the so-called Ukrainian national guards have killed a civilian in the town of Krasnoarmeisk in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, Denis Pushilin, a co-chairman of the government of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, told Itar-Tass on Sunday.
However he provided no further details of the incident.
“They (Ukrainian law enforcers) were impeding the referendum. Members of the elections commission have barely escaped,” he said.
According to earlier reports, Krasnoarmeisk became the first town in Ukraine’s Donetsk region to finish the Sunday referendum. The voter turnout here was 77.08 percent, Roman Lyagin, the chairman of the central election commission of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, told Itar-Tass.
According to Lyagin, polling stations in that town were closed that early because of security considerations. On Sunday, Ukrainian law enforcers who are conducting a punitive operation in the town seized four school buildings housing polling stations. “All people were evacuated from these polling stations, along with ballot boxes, signature lists, voter registers,” Pushilin said, adding that radicals, presumably, members of the so-called national guards, had seized the building of the Krasnoarmeisk city executive committee.
