Listen to this Pan-African Journal edition featuring reports on the
South African elections held May 7 and the unfolding deeper
involvement by the United States in Nigeria.
The ruling African National Congress (ANC) party won an overwhelming
majority in the May 7 national elections. This was the fifth
countrywide election since the ANC took power in the first democratic
poll in April 1994, some two decades ago.
Included in the program are reports on the elections from the South
African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC). An analysis of the
significance of the vote was also provided.
In addition to the South African elections, the international response
to the kidnapping of over 270 high school girls in northeastern
Nigeria was discussed. The editorial view of the PANW is that this
tragedy is being manipulated by imperialism to provide a rationale for
deeper Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Pentagon interventions in
the West African state.
Also this year represents the 50th anniversary of the political
interventions of Malcolm X in Africa and the Middle East (1964-2014).
The marking of this historical landmark was discussed in light of the
upcoming 51st anniversary of the formation of the Organization of
African Unity (OAU).
