President Jacob Zuma has visited the IEC’s Results Operations Centre in Pretoria on Thursday evening. Zuma was surrounded by scores of journalists as he greeted the various political party officials at the centre and IEC staff.
There are currently more than 20 high ranking political party officials based at the centre who are monitoring the results as they come in.
African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Gwede Mantashe gave the president a quick run down of the ruling party's standings in the provincial and national elections.
The ANC is currently sitting at nearly 63% of the votes in the National Assembly ballot after just under 88% of the voting district results have been declared. The Democratic Alliance has 21.84%.
Although the counting of the votes is still underway, Zuma looked pleased with the outcome of the results.
DA leader Hellen Zille broke through the crowd of media to greet Zuma. She said: "I just want to say, 'I’m the Blue-Mshiniwami', she said as she greeted Zuma and ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa.
