ANCYL Statement on Re-Emergence of Racism In South Africa
30 May 2014
The ANC Youth League is very much concerned about the re-emergence of racism and white supremacists attitude that some media houses encourage, indirectly. We are one of the leading formations of young people and we are very much concerned about the direction that this re-emergence of racism may take our country to. We understand that some people were complacent to Apartheid and wished to live in a racially segregated South Africa, but we want those mean souls to join a progressive South African society by embracing the democratic ethos of a non-racial South Africa.
Editors and Sub-editors should start taking responsibility of what their newsroom publishes. SANEF should also assist their members embrace democracy, non-racialism and non-sexism. There is a serious need of leadership provision by the current SANEF leaders.
A Congress of Clowns
The recent cartoon titled, "A Congress of Clowns" by the Editorial Cartoonist of Eyewitness News and City Press, John Curtis, highlights the racialism that reigns in the minds of the `liberal` newsrooms supported by pseudo-political analysts. As the ANC Youth League, we are sure that we can never change the mindset of the racist few that dominate our opinion-making space, thus we appeal to the general public - the young people in particular to never listen or take the likes of Curtis, Zapiro and Helen Zille serious lest we reverse the gains of democracy.
The ANC Youth League supports all forms of fighting racialism and its proponents, thus we call on all our members who reside closer to the Sandton area to join the march to Primedia House @ 5 Gwen Lane today, Friday, 30 May 2014.
We also note the non-racial text messages that are written by over a million progressive South Africans on Twitter and FACEBOOK. Racialism has no space in South Africa and a black man is equally capable as a white man to be President, a Cabinet Minister and even to be particular to be a Minister of Finance. The ANC Youth League once more thanks South Africans for voting the ANC.
John CurtisThe ANC Youth League calls on members of society to remain peaceful and to never allow racist provocation to divide our 20 year old non-racial nation. We call on both white youth and black youth to embrace each other and isolate the few disgruntled voices of the likes of John Curtis - the Managing Editor of Africartoons.com and Creative Editor at Digital JUNGLE. He is a disgrace to Pretoria Boys High and Jeep High School for Boys. He is one man we should just stomach living with and hope he and the likes minded are taken soon. He has no space in the future South Africa. He has no PhD but calls himself Dr. Jack. What a fake of personality.
