Zanu-PF provincial youth leagues have thrown their weight behind the appointment of the First Lady Amai Grace Mugabe as Secretary for the Women’s League at the party congress slated for December. The Women’s League last week recommended her appointment to the position and Matabeleland North and South are also supporting the proposal.

In separate interviews yesterday, youths leaders in various provinces confirmed their support.

Manicaland provincial youth chairperson Cde Kelvin Manyengavana said he respected the Women’s League decision.

“I respect the Women’s League and as the party’s league they are free to make any decision they want,” he said.

“Whatever decision they make we rally behind them all the way in full support.”

Cde Godwin Gomwe, the zanu-pf Harare provincial youth chairperson, paid tribute to those who proposed the idea.

“It was very thoughtful and I am proud to say that we support it,” said Cde Gomwe.

Matabeleland South provincial youth leader Cde Washington Nkomo said they are fully aware of the roles played by the First Lady in nation building.

“We are in full support of her as the youth,” he said.

“She has been exemplary and we are confident that she has already proved that she befits the position.” Midlands provincial Youth League chairperson Cde Edmore Samambwa said the First Lady could be trusted with the position given the role she is playing in taking care of the President.

“We believe she can handle the task and can be entrusted with that position,” he said.

Another youth leader from Mashonaland Central Cde Godfrey Tsenengamu said: “As a mother figure she has played her role extremely well and as her children we will be by her side.”
