Cuba: Fidel Castro Attends Closing Session of 7th PCC Congress

The closing session of the 7th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) opened here today in the presence of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and the first secretary of the organization, Raul Castro.
Fidel Castro was cheered and applauded by delegates and guests at the Havana's Conference Center, venue of the event since Saturday, Apr 16.
The closing session of the event coincides in time with the celebration of 55th anniversary of victory in Playa Giron (Bay of Pigs), when the Cuban people reached victory over U.S.-backed mercenary invasion in what is considered the first defeat of imperialism in Latin America.
During the meeting, participants discussed and approved the Main Report of the event, presented by the First Secretary at the opening session.
The discussion in four committees of important documents related to the future work of the country, such as the conceptualization of the Cuban economic and social model of socialist development and the national development plan until 2030, were carried out at the same time.
According to the report of Commission One, the strengthening and sustainable development of the socialism in Cuba is only possible as of preserving the values and increasing labor productivity, so that the wealth for its fair distribution increases.
Commission Two, in turn, agreed that the national plan will be the leading document of the Cuban planning system and Commission Three ratified the proposed updating of the Economic and Social Policy Guidelines for the 2016-2021 period.
Meanwhile, the decision of Commission Four said the PCC work should be guided by enhancing actions that contribute to preserve and strengthen the patriotic and moral unity of the people around the Revolution and the Party.

The greatest danger is looming on Earth today perhaps derives from the destructive power of modern weaponry, which could undermine peace in the planet, considered the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 7th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), the historical leader said that such weapons could make life impossible on the Earth's surface and the species would disappear just as happened with the dinosaurs.
According to Fidel Castro, if theories of some scientists are true, the practical man must learn more and adapt to reality.
'If the species survives a much longer space of time, future generations will know much more than us, "he said.
However, he acknowledged, they will first have to solve a big problem, how to feed the billions of human beings, whose realities will face the limits for drinking water and natural resources they need.

HAVANA, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro on Tuesday made a rare appearance at the meeting of the Communist Party of Cuba, voicing his support for Cuba's economic and social reforms.
In a surprise speech at the closing ceremony of the 7th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), Fidel Castro backed the economic changes begun five years ago by his younger brother and the current leader Raul Castro.
"We will change what needs to be reformed in the country while maintaining our loyalty and unity just like our independence heroes Marti, Maceo and Gomez," the elder Castro told the delegates and guests present at the Convention Center of Havana, the capital of Cuba, for the closing ceremony of the four-day PCC Congress.
The elder Castro said he had not expect to live this long, referring to his upcoming 90th birthday. He said Tuesday's speech could be one of his last due to his advanced age.
"I will soon be 90 and my turn will come like everybody else. But the ideas of Cuban communists will live on to prove that, if we work with dignity and fervor, we can produce the goods needed by our nation," said an emotional Fidel Castro. This is the first time the elder Castro has referenced his eventual death in public.
He also congratulated Raul Castro on his efforts to lead the reform process.
The greatest danger facing humanity is weapons of mass destruction, which could undermine the planet's peace and order, said Fidel Castro in his speech, stressing that human beings must adapt and learn more about the reality of the world and its dangers.
