The National Emergency Management Agency has received a new batch of 162 Nigerians who were stranded in Libya.
The 162 voluntary returnees comprised 83 female adults, 15 of them pregnant; six female children and six female infants; 62 male adults, two male children and three male infants.
They arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on Thursday night.
The South West Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, Yakubu Suleiman, said Nigerian youths should be advised against irregular migration.
According to him, the returnees were assisted back to the country by the International Organisation for Migration, a UN agency.
He said, “Migration is part of human life but should be done based on the host country’s policies. Every economically viable country like Nigeria is having its share of socio-economic and security challenges; all nations are grappling with issues. The primary responsibility of every government is to safeguard its national interests and welfare of its citizens first before considering others.
“Thus, Nigerian youths seeking greener pastures outside the shores of this country should know that they would become second-class citizens in their host countries except for those who entered through regular means.”
