According to the former president's team, "Lula is arrested by a legal device and by manipulation of the Penal Code," as was stated on the Lula official Twitter account.

The brother of Brazilian former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Jose Ferreira da Silva, revealed that Lula's defense team will prove his innocence on all the accusations that the Brazilian justice has imposed on him.

Lula's brother who is also a union leader, better known as Frei Chico, stated that "I want to say to the people, believe me in one thing: Lula did not steal anything, he did not steal and he's going to prove that. The narrative that they made saying he stole, they will have to prove it."

In an interview with local media, the brother of the Brazilian leader reiterated that Lula suffers "a stupid persecution (...), history will show his innocence." Frei Chico added that "unfortunately Lula is a very important person for Brazil and he is paying the price for that."

According to the former president's team, "Lula is arrested by a legal trick and by manipulation of the Penal Code," as stated on the Lula official Twitter account.

According to his brother, when Lula attended the funeral of his grandson Arthur, the Brazilian government and other authorities imposed conditions of not using cell phones or talking to the media.

Now the "Free Lula is the flag of national sovereignty, of the rights of the working class. The sentences against Lula must be annulled," says the Lula's official Twitter account.

Lula continues to be a prisoner in the Curibita Federal Police Superintendence, serving a sentence of 12 years and one month imposed by the Federal Regional Court for alleged acts of corruption. Nonetheless, social movements and activists point out that this accusation, which lacks evidence, responds to persecution against the popular leader.
