WOMEN’S Affairs, Gender and Community Development Minister Olivia Muchena yesterday hailed communities in Kambuzuma for their sterling projects that have enabled them to fend for their families.

Speaking at a combined International Families and Women’s Day Commemoration held at Wadzanai Primary School yesterday in Kambuzuma, Minister Muchena urged other districts to emulate such community initiatives.

“Gender combines both men and women. My ministry does not support women only and I am happy that you are working as a team for self-sustenance,” said Minister Muchena.

“We are going to train you in mushroom project, internal saving and lending such that you will be able to manage your businesses. This will change your lives.”

Minister Muchena said if people worked hard they could fight poverty which is causing domestic violence in many homes.

“Poverty is the major cause of domestic violence in our communities and we condemn violence in all spheres of life,” she said.

“We do not condone violence in schools and we have heard several reports of bullying and that affects our education systems.”

She mentioned the four Ps that can help curb violence as Protection, Prevention, Participation and Programming. The Urban Community Development Programme is progressing well, although they complained over lack of funding which was affecting some of their activities. Women and men displayed their wares that comprised bricks, home décor, and agricultural produce just to mention a few.
