Chairman and top editors of state-owned Al-Ahram newspaper – who were appointed by the Islamist-dominated Shura Council – have been dismissed
Egypt's state-owned Al-Ahram media organisation has sacked its chairman, Mamdouh El-Wali, and the editors of its daily and evening newspapers, Abdel-Nasser Salama and Mohamed Kharaga.
All three were appointed by the Islamist-dominated Shura Council, which was dissolved by interim President Adly Mansour on 5 July.
El-Wali was viewed as Islamist-leaning.
Al-Ahram's general assembly said it took the decision to "rebalance its editorial policy" and meet the expectations of the Egyptian people.
The general assembly said Al-Ahram would return to its original position as a symbol of credibility, precision and impartiality, devoted to providing knowledge and enlightenment to the people.
The names of the dismissed chairman and editors will remain on the newspapers for the time being for legal reasons, the general assembly said, but they no longer have any power to represent or speak for Al-Ahram.
