SANTIAGO DE CUBA.– The walls of the former Moncada Garrison were again illuminated in the dawn hours this July 26, the 64th anniversary of the assault launched by the Centenary Generation, when 160 young students reenacted the glorious action inspired by the legacy of Fidel.

With hundreds of the residents looking on, after enjoying the city's Carnival or staying awake for the occasion, just like that historic day, at 5:15am, the young participants took Post 3, this time carrying over-sized pencils and shouting their love for the Comandante en Jefe and support for Raúl.

The group was intent upon making a reality of Fidel's assertion during his 1953 trial: "My comrades are not dead, or forgotten." Shouts of "Presente!" were heard after the names of the Moncada assailants who sacrificed their lives were read, the majority tortured and killed in cold blood well after the attack.

The tribute continued as the crowd made its way to Santa Ifigenia Cemetery where floral wreaths were placed at the Pantheon of July 26 Martyrs in the name of President Raúl Castro, and the people of Cuba.

Led by Lázaro Expósito Canto and Beatriz Johnson Urrutia, first Party secretary in Santiago and president the Provincial Assembly of People's Power, respectively, participants paid their respects to the intellectual author of the Moncada assault, José Martí, at his mausoleum, and the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, before the giant boulder where his ashes rest.

The celebration of National Rebellion Day in Santiago also included a recognition of the July 26 Historical Museum's 50th anniversary and the opening of a photo exhibit of visits to the Moncada by world leaders, most accompanied by Fidel or Raúl.
