Sanaa Condemns UN Security Council Over Yemen Sovereignty

Yemen denounces the UN Security Council, accusing it of double standards over sovereignty, Palestine, and Saudi aggression against Yemen.

Yemen's Foreign Ministry on Saturday condemned contradictions in the UN Security Council's positions, accusing the body of violating the charters and rights it claims to uphold.

In a statement, the ministry said the Council is supposed to “respect the human rights of peoples and achieve justice,” but argued that its actions contradict those principles.

The ministry questioned the Council's commitment to international peace and security, saying that if it genuinely sought to uphold those principles, its permanent members would not themselves wage wars, occupy countries, and seize rights without referring back to the Council.

Sanaa also criticized the Security Council's stated commitment to preserving Yemen's sovereignty and independence while simultaneously taking measures that it says violate Yemen's sovereignty and deprive its people of their rights.

The ministry said Yemen understands the motivations behind “prepaid” statements, stressing that it places its trust in God and relies on its own capabilities to secure what it considers its full rights.

It asked, “Does the occupation of countries, plundering their resources, depriving peoples of their rights, and genocides conform with the charters of the United Nations?”

Sanaa highlights Security Council’s record on Palestine

Yemen's Foreign Ministry also pointed to the Security Council's record on Palestine, saying the body has adopted resolutions intended to protect the Palestinian people from crimes committed by the occupation but has been unable to enforce them since 1948.

The ministry argued that such positions and statements expose the United Nations and its various institutions before peoples seeking their legitimate rights.

The criticism reflects Sanaa's broader rejection of international mechanisms that it says apply principles of sovereignty and international law selectively, particularly in cases involving Western-backed military and political powers.

“Saudi regime’s mercenaries and allies will not protect it”

The ministry also accused Saudi Arabia of using its financial influence to shape international positions.

“Saudi money buys international courtesies and undermines the charters upon which these institutions were founded,” the ministry said.

It questioned whether the Security Council was aware that Saudi warplanes had violated Yemeni airspace from March 26, 2015, through the targeting of Sanaa International Airport on July 13, 2026.

“There is no surprise that the Al Saud seize the rights of the Yemeni people, as they previously seized the identity and authenticity of the Arab Muslim people in the land of the Two Holy Mosques,” the ministry added.

It further said that the Saudi regime's attempts to mobilize its “mercenaries” or issue statements and establish alliances would not shield it from accountability for crimes committed against Yemen.

Security Council condemns flights to Sanaa and Hodeidah

The statement followed a Security Council condemnation issued Friday over flights that landed at Sanaa International Airport on July 3 and Hodeidah Airport on July 13.

Council members described the flights as an “infringement of international civil aviation rules,” according to the statement cited by Yemen's Foreign Ministry.

The dispute comes amid continued tensions over Yemen's airspace, ports, and access routes, with Sanaa rejecting what it considers international measures that infringe upon Yemen's sovereignty.
