President Robert Mugabe of the Southern African nation of Zimbabwe has given an address to the Central Committee of the ruling Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front Party. He emphasized the priorities of the party leading up to the upcoming national elections.
May Day, international workers day, was celebrated in various states throughout the African continent. In South Africa, Morocco, Zimbabwe and Somalia workers sought to express their aspirations for good jobs, salaries and genuine independence.
In Nigeria political kidnappings have continued with the abduction of the former petroleum minister Dr. Shettima Ali Monguno who is 87-years-old. A committee has been established in an attempt to obtain
his release.
Assata Shakur, the African American freedom fighter, has been the subject of renewed attacks on the revolutionary movement inside the United States. Shakur, a former member of the Black Panther Party and the Black Liberation Army, was granted political asylum in the Republic of Cuba many years ago.
