Fort Hood shooting suspect releases writings renouncing citizenship, denouncing democracy

FORT HOOD, Texas — Days before he’s to go on trial for the Fort Hood shooting rampage, Maj. Nidal Hasan has released more of his writings about America and Islam.
Foxnews.com on Thursday posted what it said were writings released by Hasan through his attorney for civil issues, John Galligan. They include one handwritten note dated Oct. 18, 2012, in which Hasan renounces his American citizenship.
Another undated, typewritten note says it isn’t “permissible” for someone to prefer American democracy over traditional Islamic sharia law. Hasan says Muslims should not “compromise their beliefs” for the sake of non-Muslims.
Hasan is charged with the November 2009 rampage that killed 13 soldiers and wounded more than 30 people. His court-martial starts Tuesday.
Galligan confirmed to The Associated Press that he provided the writings to Fox News.
