Niger, a member of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), has reaffirmed support for Morocco’s bid to join the West African trade bloc.

In a joint statement issued following the 4th Morocco-Niger Joint Committee (Dec 25-26 in Rabat), the two parties highlighted the beneficial impact Morocco would have on the ECOWAS.

The Joint Committee also underscored Morocco’s support and commitment to stability in the Sahel region in general and in Niger in particular.

The Nigerien delegation reiterated Niamey’s position in support of the UN-led process to find a lasting political solution to the Sahara issue.

The Joint Committee wrapped up with the signing of 16 cooperation agreements covering trade, economy, employment and health.
