Somalia: President Hassan travels to Mombasa
Mogadishu (RBC)
The president of the Federal Government of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has traveled to the Kenyan coastal town of Mombasa early on Saturday, RBC Radio reports.
According to RBC Radio reporter the president was accompanied by several presidential officials.
Initial details from the president’s travel to Mombasa say that the president will hold first face-to-face talks with the officials of Kismaayo interim administration to seek resolution for the widely contested conference in Kismaayo, the port town on southern Somali’s Jubba region.
The talks will be hosted by Kenyan government as president Uhuru Kenyatta will join, according to sources in Nairobi.
The Federal Government in Mogadishu had made various attempts to reconcile with the Kismaayo administration but ended with failure. It was not clear why this meeting was now transferred to Mombasa and what the role of Kenyan government will be.
Somalia Federal Government had earlier opposed the ongoing Jubbaland Conference in Kismaayo referring as “unconstitutional” but the leaders of Kismaayo administration rebuffed the government’s statement.
