Four policemen injured in Sinai bombing
Ahram Online, Friday 3 Jan 2014
An explosive device detonated on a northern highway, targeting a passing armoured vehicle, 4 wounded
Four policemen were injured in a bomb targeting an armoured vehicle in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported.
An explosive device was planted in a highway connecting the northern Sinai towns of Arish and Sheikh Zuweid near Egypt's border with Israel and the Gaza Strip. It was detonated as the vehicle passed by it.
Injuries ranged from cuts and scratches, an Ahram reporter added.
The restive and underdeveloped Sinai has seen an uptick in militant violence since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi, with regular attacks killing dozens of security personnel.
Egypt has poured troops and armour into the region while waging a sustained crackdown on Islamists — principally Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood — elsewhere.
