Egypt's Sisi Meets with Chadian Counterpart in Sochi

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi discussed bilateral cooperation with Chadian President Idriss Deby in a meeting in Sochi on Wednesday on the sidelines of the Russia-Africa Summit.
The first-ever Russia-Africa Summit is co-chaired by the Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Egyptian president, who holds the chairmanship of the African Union for 2019.
According to a statement by Egypt's presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady, El-Sisi hailed the close and historical ties linking Egypt and Chad.
El-Sisi stressed Egypt's keenness to boost its relations with Chad on various levels given their strategic proximity and similar views on many regional and international issues.
El-Sisi also highlighted Egypt's interest in continuing cooperation with Chad in the area of capacity building by offering training programmes for Chadian talents in various fields – mainly in the healthcare sector – in addition to implementing his initiative to treat 1 million Africans of hepatitisC.
Earlier this year, within the framework of Egypt's chairmanship of the African Union, Egypt introduced an initiative to eliminate hepatitis C in the African continent. The initiative, which targets 18 African countries, will provide technical support, expertise, screening tools and free treatment for 1 million Africans infected with hepatitis C.
Deby praised the close relations between the two countries.
He pointed out his country's keenness to develop bilateral cooperation with Egypt, expressing his appreciation for Egypt's support for Chad in many fields, especially in the field of capacity support.
The Chadian president lauded Egypt's active role in the African continent in light of its current presidency of the African Union, praising the Egyptian efforts in this regard, which would achieve the aspirations of the peoples of the continent towards stability and development.
