This program will begin our month-long commemoration of African American History. The holiday grew out of the work of Dr. Carter G. Woodson, the founder of the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History (1915), the Journal of Negro History (1916) and Negro History Week (1926).

Some fifty years later in 1976, the federal government declared the month of February as Black History Month. In this episode we will focus on the contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X (El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz), two luminaries of the liberation struggle which emerged during the mid-20th century.
