ANC Urges All Eligible Voters to Cast Their Votes in By-elections Today
21 February 2018
The African National Congress calls on all eligible voters to go out in their numbers and cast their votes in the by-elections to be held today in Ward 13, Overstrand Municipality and Ward 2 in Beaufort West Municipality, both in the Western Cape Province.
These by-elections are held as the ANC reaffirms its commitment to work to rebuild the people's confidence in the movement and regain all lost support in all areas of country, including in the Western Cape province. We have further committed ourselves to renew our focus on addressing the key challenges facing our people the creation of jobs, especially for the youth, as well as fighting crime and corruption.
The ANC applauds the selfless efforts by the ANC volunteers and supporters in the Western Cape for their tireless efforts campaigning for a decisive victory. As we celebrate 100 years of President Nelson Mandela and Mama Albertina Sisulu, it is efforts such as these - working for the good of the movement and South Africa - that inspire us to remain resolute on our mandate to renew the ANC and unite the movement and South Africans.
The ANC is confident of yet another peaceful, credible, free and fair by-election under the stewardship of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and with the commitment to political tolerance of all parties.
All those who are eligible to vote are urged to register to vote if they have not yet done so. The ANC also calls upon all South Africans to check their registration details and update their address ahead of 2019 National Elections at their local IEC offices on weekdays, during office hours, or to use the voter registration weekend on the 10th and 11th March 2018 to check and update their details.
