Sudan’s Council Says People to Decide on War After New RSF Drone Attack

September 14, 2025 (PORT SUDAN) – Sudan’s Sovereign Council said on Sunday the Sudanese people alone would decide the country’s war, rejecting external proposals for a truce hours after the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched a drone attack on civilian infrastructure.
The army said that at dawn on Sunday, it had repelled an RSF attack using suicide drones on a thermal power station, fuel depots, a civilian airport and an air base in White Nile state.
In a statement, the council accused the “rebellion militia” of a “systematic” campaign to destroy civilian facilities, noting the attack came just hours after a call for peace from the Quad group of nations.
“This war is directed against the Sudanese people, and they will confront it and decide on it alone,” the statement added.
On Friday, the Quad group, comprising the United States, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Egypt, called for a three-month humanitarian truce to precede a permanent ceasefire. The group stated that this should be followed by a nine-month transitional process to establish a civilian government, with Sudan’s future determined by its people without interference from the warring parties.
The council described the latest attack as a “criminal” act and a war crime, accusing the RSF of repeatedly targeting civilians amid a “suspicious” regional and international silence.
The recent wave of RSF drone attacks on civilian targets coincides with the Sudanese army’s recapture of strategic areas in the neighbouring North Kordofan state.
